Top 5 Chiropractic Myths

Written By ChiroConcepts of Plano West on September 27, 2019

Chiropractic care in PlanoChiropractic healing methods have been around for centuries with many cultures relying on these effective methods to treat chronic or acute ailments.

However, several myths surrounding the practice of regular chiropractic healing continue to survive – despite voluminous evidence in support of the efficacy of these practices.

At Chiro Concepts of Plano West, we encourage you to meet with our chiropractor to discuss any concerns you may have heard about – and you’ll soon realize we offer a safe, non-invasive, all-natural approach to whole-body healing.

1. Myth: Chiropractors are medically unqualified

Many believe that a chiropractor is not a “real doctor.” Not only is a degree in chiropractic arts a “doctorate” degree (preceded by four years of undergraduate studies), but chiropractors must spend significant time in the field prior to practicing on their own – as well as successfully complete licensure requirements and state testing.

2. Myth: Adjustments will make pain worse

Many errantly believe that manual spinal manipulation (i.e., an “adjustment”) will hurt and/or make the pain get worse. The reality is, in fact, quite the opposite. Rarely, if ever, will an adjustment itself cause a patient any pain. Moreover, the aftereffects of chiropractic manipulation bring near-instant relief to those experiencing ongoing acute pain.

3. Myth: Chiropractic care is too expensive

Many are surprised to learn that the typical health insurance provider offers substantial coverage for many patients. Not only are adjustments usually covered, but ancillary services including physical and massage therapy are generally included as well. Of course, all coverage plans are different, but we work with a number of insurance providers, including Medicare.

4. Myth: Once I start going, I’m stuck

We hear this one quite a bit: “Won't I have to attend appointments forever once I begin treatment?” Absolutely not. At the outset of chiropractic treatment, appointments will likely be more frequent in duration in order to quickly address ongoing issues. Over time, treatment can be less frequent. However, we always recommend our patients stop in regularly for “maintenance,” which helps keep the spine aligned.

5. Myth: Chiropractic care is only for adults

Not true! Some of our happiest patients are of the pediatric persuasion – and we work regularly with children ranging from newborns to adolescents to seniors in high school. Children’s growing bodies need a special approach and careful consideration – and we are pleased to work with children to provide safe chiropractic care each day.
